FAIR Crystal Music Choices


7th/8th Grade Band

7th/8th grade band is a year-long class that meets together every other day as an ensemble. Students also receive a weekly small group lesson. The band performs one concert each semester. The band will learn and perform a variety of musical styles and advanced instrumental techniques. 7th grade students should have at least one prior year of experience in band to sign up for this class. 8th grade students should have two prior years of experience in band to sign up for this class. Students will receive a band method book for free.


6th Grade Band

6th grade band is a year-long class that meets together every other day as an ensemble.

Students also receive a weekly small group lesson. The band performs one concert each semester. The band will learn and perform a variety of musical styles and intermediate instrumental techniques. Students should have at least one prior year of experience in band to sign up for this class. Students will receive a band method book for free.  


6th Grade Beginning Band

The 6th grade beginning band is open to any 6th grader who wants to learn a band instrument: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Baritone, and Tuba (Percussion by audition)

6th grade beginning band is a year-long pull-out lesson program. Students meet at the beginning of the year to try out and choose instruments. Students then begin band lessons. 6th grade beginning band meets every other day as an ensemble.

Students also receive a weekly small group lesson. The band performs one concert at the end of the year in May. Students who work hard and learn quickly have the opportunity to earn a spot in the regular 6th grade band. The emphasis of beginning band is learning basic skills, instrument care, and basic musicianship.

Students will receive a band method book for free.  


5th Grade Beginning Band

The 5th grade beginning band is open to any 5th grader who wants to learn a band instrument: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Baritone, and Tuba (Percussion by audition)

5th grade beginning band is a year-long pull-out lesson program. Students meet at the beginning of the year to try out and choose instruments. Students then begin band lessons. Band lessons are once a week with small groups. Once students learn a few songs, the band will start to meet together as an ensemble. The beginning band performs at the band concert in May. The emphasis of beginning band is learning basic skills, instrument care, and basic musicianship.

Students will receive a band method book for free.

8th grade orchestra is a year-long class that meets together every other day as an ensemble. Students also receive a weekly small group lesson. The orchestra performs one concert each semester. Students should have at least two prior years of experience in orchestra to sign up for this class.  The 8th grade orchestra will learn and perform a variety of musical styles and advanced string techniques. Students should have at least two prior years of experience in orchestra to sign up for this class. Students will receive a string method book for free.

Students should have one prior year of experience in orchestra. 6th graders who wish to learn a string instrument may sign up as a beginner and start out with lessons. Beginners have the opportunity to join the class if they practice and earn a spot.

4th/5th Grade Beginning Choir

4th & 5th grade beginning choir is a special auditioned ensemble that meets weekly. This group is an introduction to choral ensemble singing.


4th Grade Sound Art

4th Grade Sound art is a general music class. Students will explore many aspects of music and music making. Class activities include, singing, dancing, performing music on percussion & Orff instruments. This class will also explore different styles and concepts of music.

5th Grade Performing Arts

5th Grade Performing Arts is a general music class with a touch of musical theater. Students will explore many aspects of music, music making, and musical theater. Class activities include, singing, dancing, acting, performing music on percussion & Orff instruments. This class will also explore different styles and concepts of music.


6th Grade Sound Art

6th Grade Sound art is a one semester general music class. Students will explore many aspects of music and music making. Class activities include rhythm study, musical listening, performing music on instruments, and using music technology to integrate lessons and projects. This class also explores different styles and concepts of music.


7th/8th Grade Guitar Class

Guitar class is a one semester class for any 7th or 8th grader. The emphasis of this class is focused on the beginning guitar student. Students will learn how to read guitar chord boxes, written music, and guitar tablature notation. Students will learn how to play chords and will learn many songs throughout the semester. Students will be given some class time to practice and polish their skills. This class has a limited number of guitar spots.


7th/8th Grade Music Technology

Music Technology is a one semester class open to any 7th or 8th grader.  Students will explore the world of music technology through their chromebooks, apps, and music software. They will learn how to compose, arrange, and record music. Students will also have the opportunity to use piano keyboards, guitars, and hand percussion to add to their recordings. Programs used might include: Noteflight, SoundTrap, Audacity, Garage Band, Looper
