Celebrating the Robbinsdale Teacher and Education Assistant of the Year

Two outstanding educators have been recognized by the Robbinsdale Federation of Teachers (RFT) for their exceptional work supporting students and bringing learning to life in Robbinsdale Area Schools.

Markus Hahn Named 2025 Teacher of the Year

Cooper High School (CHS) band director Markus Hahn has been named the 2025 Robbinsdale Teacher of the Year. Hahn, who has led the CHS band program since 2016, is known for his dedication, creativity, and ability to inspire students through music.

“It's a real honor and privilege to be selected as Robbinsdale Teacher of the Year for 2025,” Hahn said. “I've worked very hard to do my best for my students, and it feels wonderful to be recognized for that hard work.”

Hahn’s passion for music and commitment to student success made a strong impression on the RFT selection committee.

“Markus Hahn is an excellent example of what great teaching looks like,” said RFT President Peter Eckhoff. “His commitment and passion for music instruction are outstanding. He sees the best in each student and draws out their very best.”

Last week, his inspiring work was featured by KARE11 in a story highlighting the impact of music education and the positive culture he fosters in his classroom.

Kelly Larson Named 2025 Education Assistant of the Year

FAIR School Crystal’s Kelly Larson was honored as the 2025 Education Assistant (EA) of the Year. A dedicated staff member in the WAVE program, Larson has worked in the district for three years, supporting students at both FAIR Crystal and Robbinsdale Middle School.

Larson said she was “shocked and grateful” to receive the honor, and reflected on what she loves most about her role. “The best part of my job is getting to know the children and their personalities,” she said. “We discover their strengths, areas to grow, and all the little things about them you only learn by building strong relationships.”

Eckhoff praised Larson for her skill and presence in the classroom. “Kelly Larson brings humor, grace, and connection to her work with WAVE students every day. Her ability to build relationships and create a positive learning environment makes a real difference.”

Celebrating Our Educators

Hahn and Larson were celebrated during a special in-person event on May 21, co-hosted by the Robbinsdale Federation of Teachers and the Seven Dreams Education Foundation. The annual celebration honors educators who go above and beyond to support students and foster a love of learning in Rdale.
