Dr. Stephanie Burrage Appointed Interim Superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools

The School Board of Robbinsdale Area Schools unanimously passed a resolution to appoint Stephanie Burrage, Ed.D., as the District’s interim superintendent during the Board’s meeting on Monday, July 20, 2020. Dr. Burrage has been Assistant Superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools since August 2017; she will begin her new duties on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

The current superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools, Dr. Carlton D. Jenkins, announced his resignation earlier this month. He is leaving the district to serve as Superintendent of the Madison Metropolitan School District in Madison, Wisconsin.

“We have a fabulous community who work collaboratively to ensure academic excellence for our students,” Dr. Burrage said. “I am eager to continue working to support our Unified District Vision and building on our district’s legacy of success,” she continued.

Prior to coming to Robbinsdale Area Schools, Dr. Burrage held administrative positions in Michigan: Assistant Superintendent at Wayne RESA, 2010-2017; and Superintendent of Covert Public Schools, 2001-2010. Dr. Burrage served as a teacher and principal for K-8 students with Minneapolis Public Schools from 1991-2001.

“I think [Dr. Burrage] is a good fit to continue our progress forward,” Director Sherry Tyrrell said at the Board meeting. The board resolution states Dr. Burrage will serve in an interim position for up to one year or until the board hires a full-time superintendent, whichever comes first. The School Board of Robbinsdale Area Schools is committed to finding a permanent superintendent, and the district’s superintendent search will take place during the upcoming academic year.
