FAIR School Crystal will be hosting a few different Artist Residency Series over the course of the 24-25 school year.
To kick the year off, our first program is presented by Compas: West African Drumming, Dance & Storytelling with Christian Adeti.
About Christian Adeti:
Christian was born and raised in Accra, Ghana, West Africa. Performing internationally for over 14 years, he is the Director and Choreographer of Titambe, a company which originated in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was later revived in the US. He has taught at many colleges and universities around Minnesota, as well as at various organizations and local institutions. Christian is currently a dance instructor at the Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts.
About the Residency:
Over the course of the residency, students and teachers will be encouraged to participate in the discovery of West African drumming, dancing and story telling. West African Culture is rich with symbols, rituals, conflict, history and opportunity. The metaphor of West African music and dance allows students to experience the culture in a rhythmic and physical realm. Students will learn traditional songs and dances, while exploring the history and the rituals within the authentic context of an ethnic community/ classroom gathering.
